bad precedent
the result of the 2007 bar examinations was released last saturday with more than 1,200 examinees passing it. the justices in an en banc session decided to lower the passing rate from 75 to 70 and again lowered the Disqualification grade in 3 subjects from 50 to 40. I believe they have to do this because otherwise only 5% of the examinees would've passed.
with all due respect to our dear magistrates, I believe they shouldn't have done that.
bar passers who got the rating of 70-74 are still numerically, flunkers. I'm not saying this because I already passed the bar. I'm saying this because they are putting the new lawyers on the defense. Having an overall grade of 70 would lead me to explain that i'm a 2007 bar passer.. the period wherein they got so strict with checking and blah.. blah.. blah... or having a grade of 42 in civil law or labor law would give that impression that i was not able to answer the questions in a satisfactory manner. the impression that they wouldn't have passed if the SC was to follow the normal standards will forever hunt them. Yep.. that feeling of happiness is there until they see their grades and until they tried looking for a job.
They should have let the grades be. Or they could have opted to just give a +10 bonus points to all subjects. that would still give them the same results. the leap from 5% to 22% is just way too much.
